Farewell Spit Tours
Go one and give yourself an experience of a life time - smell the sea air, enjoy the breeze on your face and feel the sand between your toes!
Tours depart from Collingwood and departure times vary depending on the time of year and tides. During tours which travel the length of the Spit you will stop to climb one of the huge dunes. You will also stop for refreshments at the lighthouse keeper’s cottage near the lighthouse. Whilst on the Lighthouse reserve there is time to explore, soak up the atmosphere and see the light lenses which were once in the top of the tower. There is also a pouwhenua placed by local iwi to indicate their connection to the Spit. Nearby is a panel explaining some of their legends and stories.
Muffins and hot drinks are included in the tour price and lunches can be provided for a small extra charge if you are on the Spit during the middle of the day. The guides are passionate about this pristine environment and are committed to ensuring that you get the most out of your experience.
Farewell Spit's beauty is made all the more poignant by the gruelling nature of the driving conditions. Sand, salt and sea spray take their toll but our specially adapted 4WD buses are both robust and comfortable. Our fleet of vehicles is maintained to an exacting standard. Refurbishment of the interiors is ongoing for passenger comfort and a hi-tech sound system ensures you don't miss a word of the commentary.
